Mail Order Chicks

I have only mail ordered one time, from Meyer hatchery, and all my girls are fine and healthy.

I highly recommend them.

I ordered 5 barred rock pullets from Cackle Hatchery's new small order program. It was $41 alltogether and well worth it. They came in a box with a straw lined smaller box on the inside with some gro-gel and a heating pad. I've had them home for over a week and a half and all are fine and thriving. This was my first time ever buying mail order chicks and I can tell you after this small lot I will definitely order more and larger quantities from Cackle again.

Cackle Hatchery is awesome but I am biased. I live in the same town they are located in. That is where I have purchased all my chicks and I assure you they are all fit as a fiddle. They have a special going on for the shipment of a small number of chicks (5 or 10) but I think the shipping is higher than a normal 15 chick shipment. If you wanted to, try to find someone that will slpit on order with you. If you wanted to try sex linked, they have some rockin' Cinnamon Queens. I bought 8 this year and they are growing like weeds. Good luck to you!!!

I went on eggbid.com and ordered 25 black sex link pullets and 25 easter eggers and they came from Texas to West Virginia and only one died in route. I only kept a few and sold the others at the flea market and local poultry auction. At 12 days old I took them to sell and they all did fine. I put them in a long wash tub with a light hanging down in my barn shaped utility building. You could put a ad in a local sales paper that your looking for chicks or see if anyone is selling them. We have a weekly sales ad called the ol mountain trader that is sold at counters of stores and gas stations here. Good Luck, Teresa in WV

Ok now the chicks didnt show today but Cackle confirmed ship out yesterday so....I find my old self sitting here almost as expectantly as when my wife gave birth to my son, I swear I shant sleep tonight

I was wondering if you could try contacting your local Chicken/ Avian enthusiast organization. Many times they have really great breeders who are willing to sell chicks, especially if you are gracious and courteous.

Many breeders love people who appreciate what they do and will go out of their way to help. It might be worth it to try, it could end up saving you money and end up with a better bird.

I ordered over the phone from Cackle with a ship date of the 17th and recieve on the 19th. Was I to get a phone call or email or something confirming delivery? I don't know if they will be coming or not.

Thank you for the advice. I would like to try to get them locally. What would be some good places or clubs to look up? I live in Springfield, Or. Are there groups that are common in most areas?
I'm pretty new to this whole subject
