Major coop overhaul and a ventilation question

Looks awesome, good job. Does your fencing go into the ground at all? In my area predators would dig under, we have to bury fencing a few feet down. Such a pain.

Thanks. We've had our temporary run for just over 4 years and haven't had anything dig underneath. Our biggest issue was the rats that went under the run to nest. We have an apartment complex behind us with a dumpster on the other side of the fence. Since I started baiting we haven't seen any signs of them though.

We just had regular chicken wire before this. Our dogs go in the run when we open the door but they haven't tried digging, yet.

x2! You can't have too much ventilation, and the window is fine, covered in hardware cloth. I'd add more security to the hardware cloth run area. Mine has 2"x4" woven wire over the lower 4', in addition to the hardware cloth, all stapled in with 3/4" staples, and then 1"x4" boards screwed in over all the seams. I tried to plan for both weasels, and 100 lb. dogs trying to get to my birds. Also, a dig proof foundation, if it's not already done. Predators are tricky, and motivated! Mary

Do you add hardware cloth to the inside or outside? I have to popthe window out when I put the new siding on so I can turn it around I think.

I was wondering if I could do hardware cloth at the top between the run and coop. Would be good ventilation.
Yeppers, should be well protected by the run roof from wind and rain.

Depends on from where you plan to operate the window, put it on the other side.

Hardware cloth installed on lower, siding up, window still needs cut on this end. The storage area will be separated into two sections. Nesting boxes will go on the back of the coop inside of this storage end.

Siding up on this end. We used fence boards to fill in the space between the hardware cloth and roof.

New ramp and pop door. I added more 1x2 pieces across the ramp after this picture was taken.

New nesting boxes. Need to caulk still.

She couldn't wait to try them out. She headed up the ramp, saw the new boxes and headed straight for them.

And promptly laid an egg! Guess the new boxes are chicken approved!

Roof shingles are almost done.

Still need to attach hardware cloth to the bottom front of the coop, frame door in to the run and add siding to the front.
