Make them work for it.

We use a suspended chick feeder And we would let it empty each day. The chicks would eat most of what was spread on the ground. I would imagine putting a tray below the feeder would make it easier to catch. Additionally, if you could move the chicks to the run you might be able to clean less often and the chicks could find the wasted feed. They would be learning about the environment they will soon inhabit.

Using the setup in this article, we have yet to clean the brooder. Of course the brooder is now just the fram which gives the girls a pace to hide or roost.
