I have been following the whole quail forum for a while but looked into the basic questions, etc., etc. Now I want to buy some in the next week. I have been thinking about modifying pre-flatscreen home entertainment centers to find them a new 21st century post recession era life as quail hutches. How else could a poor man provide his quails with a hutch made out of oak. As far as I can see they are either free or discounted due to the advent of the flat screen tv. I figure I would have to add levels of wood in some parts, knock out others, put hardware wire in others, and give it a corrrugated slanted roof. Any suggestions?

I have seen this done somewhere. Seemed to work out. You are married to scoop'n poop with this type of set up. I guess you could but a suspended wire floor above the bottom and have pans under that. Post up as you go.....

Yeah I realize they are more like miniature turkeys than miniature chickens in terms of faecal odor. I know I will probably make mistakes but I plan on having a growing population which will give me plenty of chances to get converting an entertainment center like that into a science. There seems to be an endless supply of free or nearly free cathode ray era entertainment centers made out of oak or other premium wood so I figure why not.
