Making hen aprons from jeans?

Not one local feed store has aprons for hens, they can order them and cost almost $20 a pc! SO, someone gave me the idea of using some tough material or an old pair of jeans. I do have an old pair I can cut up. I thought about cutting the legs so it was easy I just do not know how to sew. Has anyone made their own? Would clasps or velcro be best? I just want to get the right supplies today because my Roo is tearing up my girls' backs and wings. Also, others that have aprons on their birds....how often do you wash them and will it create anything for mites or parasites? I just need information really on hen aprons! Thank you!

So, no one replied and I just did what I did on my own. Here are a few pictures....I am by no means, a sewer, so all of this was iron on! I took the legs of my old man's old jeans and cut a pattern of my own, ironed on the velcro closures and their names and numbers. Yes I am that cheesy! I had leftover from a project with my daughter's, why not?!? My husband thought it was non-sense and that I should have devoted my time more to the laundry and dishes....I am more concerned with my hens' backs and new chicks I got today!

neat idea. I have a hen who lost a big patch on her back from a dog attack. I'm worried about her getting sun burnt this summer, and was just wondering about this.

Thank you for the link, if my slapped together ones do not work I can get my mother in law to help me sew some with this helpful tip. I have researched saddles and so many people are talking about how they are too busy to make anymore, at least this person was kind enough to leave instructions.

I just saw this thread and YES, I make them out of the leg of old jeans and I don't sew anything. I just cut some "armholes" out for their wings and carefully slide them through. Mine was trial and error with rough measurements. When I got it how I wanted it, I used the best one as a pattern for the rest. If you have some jeans with a little spandex in them, they work great. This hen needed one so she could recover from an injury. Here's a picture...

Oh that is interesting... just cut the wing holes out instead of attaching straps... Do you have a pic of one laid flat so we can see the shape?
