Making my duck pen "prettier"

Rose of Sharon is a good plant and very beautiful when in bloom.

My chickens and ducks leave it alone too! and it's in their run, although it does drop it's leaves in fall.

They probably thought you planted them just for them.

Haha, probably. I caught them eating them and at the time i had 8 chickens and 4 ducks. Once I'd chase one away, another would come up. In less than five minutes they ate all of the grapes (and blueberries), they're fast. I had been putting up the little fence as they were ambushing me!

Kiwi is nice, and okay for ducks, from what I read. I have a kiwi arbor in the open area where the ducks run when I am nearby (see my post about visiting puppies!).

I also have grape vines in the open area, and they eat the leaves and seem fine.

Right now I am growing cucumbers in railing pots on their day pen.

I put Virginia creeper vine growing around my duck pen. The ducks eat the berries (which apparently are toxic to other animals and humans) and the thick foliage provides much needed shade in the winter. I spend the spring and summer training the vines where I want them to go (to create a nice canopy on the top of the pen).

i know this thread is kinda old, but i thougt i'd put in my two bobs!
i dont have a chain link fence just normal fencing stuff! and i have a passion fruit vine arounf it! it looks great!

Just an fyi....some people are allergic to Virginia creeper! I am highly allergic to it!! Its oils are more potent then poison ivy!! :/
My mom had to watch my daughter and I had to stop breast feeding because my face swelled like elephant man and I couldnt see!

I did not know that about Virginia Creeper we have it growing wild here. Poison Ivy I know to stay away from VC I didn't know about and I have pulled it up many times.
