Making my own Chick Recipe. Help!

Quote:
mooSa, describe the oil - what is it and why do you want to add it to water??

IMO, they don't need anything regularly in their waterer except fresh water, and maybe a little ACV, as an added ph balancer.

It is far more important that a ration be nutritionally balanced than organic. Feeding only wheat or any other grain is a recipe for disaster. Imagine what would happen if you fed your toddler cereal and nothing else.

i dont really understand the need for oil either... especially in the water? how do you propose that it stay mixed in? oil and water separate....

olive oil is very healthy and it has many healthy acids. it could give the chicks stronger immunity. id say like give it to them once?

I don't think you should give them olive oil. I don't think they will benefit from it at all really but make there waterer really slippery. They need fresh clean water and putting any oil in it probably isn't going to be a good idea.

Like feathersnuggles said if you put anything you can put some Organic Apple Cider Vineger in there waterer but only if it is a plastic waterer. *Don't put ACV in metal containers*.

Chick starter feed would be the best thing to feed them and it is probably cheaper instead of buying everything to make your own. There are a lot of things in feed, not just wheat. Some have corn, soy, rice, millets, ect. plus all of the vitamines that they need. If you want more natural then they do have organic feed.

If the chicks are exposed to anything other then there chick starter then they need some grit. If you are going to be making there food then give them some grit seperately. I put mine in a seperate little feeder so they could get some when they needed it.

chicks are not humans. whereas olive oil used in moderate cooking might provide US with some healthy benefits, mixing it into water for chicks is definitely not a good idea. neither is feeding them a sole ration of wheat. eating eggs is good for humans, but not eating ONLY eggs.

if you are set on organic feed (such as i am), please buy a pre-mixed organic feed. these people know what they are doing.

ok thanks for the help, but do chicks need calcium or phosphurus? i mean like crushed oyster or limestone?
