Looking at one of the chicks through it's pip hole, I see what looks to be maybe a cross beak.

It's quite possible that it just had a very mild version of it. I had a cemani that had a slightly offset beak.When it close it's beak, it's kinked to the side still.
I hope it's beak is fine.
