Male and Female don’t like each other?

I found an experienced breeder to guide me through keeping and breeding pigeons and he gave me a pair of Saxon fairy swallows. Unfortunately it doesn’t look like they like eachother and literally stay on opposite corners of their cage. He told me that the male is older and the female is much younger, so is the female just being timid? Will they warm up to each other? They’re wonderful birds and the female is very sweet.
Thank you

Pairing will take time especially if the female is immature. If the male starts harassing her I would recommend separating them with a wire barrier until she matures.

He’s seemed to claim the top platform of their cage as his own and chases her off, coos angrily, and pulls out her feathers if she tries to come onto the platform. I don’t think he comes down at all because I brought food up to him and he gobbled it all up at once. Do you think he needs time to get used to everything and then he’ll be nicer?

I'm not familiar with your type/breed of pigeon. I also see that you are keeping indoors as a pet in a cage.
You may be wise to ask the breeder some of your questions. Ask about amount of cage space he recommends. Maybe you need to increase size of aviary??
I'm not a Dr. Phil of the pigeon world, but maybe the male is being territorial due to small quarters. :idunno
