Male or female mallard

Is it too early to tell if this is a male or female? The feathers that it is growing in looks like female mallard feathers, what do you think? If it is a male I am going to have re-home him

i think its too early to tell. it sounds closer too a quack though

Both sexes will get juvenile plumage that looks the same, and then later the drakes will get their boy feathering. Ducks will make the classic quack sound, drakes sound like they’ve been heavy smokers forever. Raspy, quieter. It’s easiest to tell when you have multiples and can listen to the difference. My little 4 week old Indian runner (who I vent sexed and confirmed was female as a day old) is just starting to let out a random little quack here and there. My other birds were all between 6-8 weeks before it became obvious which ones quacked and which did not.

Drakes also retain their duckling sound far longer than hens
