Male or Female?

Is there a way to tell whether a day-old chick is a male or a female?
Also, is it necessary to give them duramycin? What is the benefit of it?

Myself, I just wait and see. I see no need in giving antibiotics unless my chicks show signs of illness.

I probably will just wait and see. I already have them and don't plan on getting rid of roosters anyway unless I absolutely have to.
I didn't realize Duramycin was antibiotic, the 'chick days' paper said to give it to them, so I wondered.
