None of my female runners shows any interest in sitting on eggs. BUT one of the girls likes to wander away from the flock to lay, and when she does, Layne, my black drake, goes with her and seems to stand guard. When she's done, he escorts her back to the group.

So, the Google answer that @Lollychicken found seems reasonable to me.

My Runner drake and Muscovy drake always go in with their ladies when they are laying. They usually just lay next to them. It's so sweet.
