I named SpeclSpe Sussex hens Maleficent and Cruella because they were especially mean and cruel to all but one of my other five hens.
Mal was so ruthless she would literally run across the pasture to attach my line, and sweet Easter Egger.
I had even told my Better Half that I was contemplating rehoming her because she was too mean.
Then about a month ago she became broody. The only hen in two years to become broody. And ofcouof c she went at it 199% . Then when she had six new babies she went into full on mommy mode. Was a very good momma.
Then after a few weeks I noticed a pair of eggs in the puppy kennel in the brooder coop. The next day she went back to the nest box in the main coop, all on her own. And two evenings later she decided to go back into the main coop to roost.
Now I think I am actually feeling a little proud of her evil, mean, wicked self.

Great story!
So is she still being mean?
Are her chicks(how old now?) integrated into the flock?
Mean as ever. Chicks are 5 or 6 weeks.
They freerange with everbever, but keep their distance.
They are still in the brooder, by themselves at night. Momma mostly let's them do their thing while she goes to do her thing.
However she still doesn't allow anyone but Ruby to get close to them.
I am thinking I will leave them in the brooder and continue with the starter grow for another month or two, then give them to their owner.
I think he actually only wants the lavender, but I have no use for the black ones.
