Hello all,

Started incubating a dozen eggs using my new Hoba. Followed all directions.

Came home from work yesterday and discovered the temp was up to 110, for some reason I cannot turn the temp down below 100.

Would it be even worth the time to continue incubating? I think the heater is malfunctioning and may have cooked my babies before their time.

Thanks much.

Are you sure it's the heater and not just the thermometer? The gages on the cheaper styro bators are notorious for being wrong. I'd make sure you have at least one calibrated thermometer/hygrometer in the bator to be sure. How many days in are you in the incubation? I wouldn't give up until I gave it a couple days to see if they are still developing.

Hi, I am also a newbie. However I will say this.
I decided to go cheap and did the hot water heater and styrofoam way. Long story short, my temps were here there and everywhere. I was also worried about this. Then I invested in a decent thermometer and realized the temps swings I thought were severe were not so bad. (I do hope this is what has happened in your case)
I have 4 eggs left from 12 now and they are hatching as I type this.
I would make sure your thermometer really is accurate, and if it is, then wait till you can candle to see what the damage was.
I don't know if you paid $$ for the eggs, or not. I would hate to say toss them when the thermometer could have been way off.
That's my opinion.

I have two thermometers in the incubator, one is the standard type that came with the Hoba and one is a thermo/hygrometer. The former is the one that registered at 110 ( at 105 now) and the latter is at 102. No matter how much I turn the thermostat down the temp does not change.

I would recommend buying at least two more thermometers and putting them in to the incubator to get around about Guess of what the temperature actually is. my first time incubating was horrible I calibrated everything correctly and it stayed true according to the machine but I found out way later in the process that my machine was not holding true readings. I have sense added multiple thermometers and hydrometers to it. I wish you the best of luck!

Sorry just seen this.I would open up the incubator and get rid of the excess heat,, keep doing that until you get the temperature to 99.5F. Just try to stabilize somewhere with lower temps. It isn't going to happen instantly but with time you should get it.
