I live in an apartment (and may be allergic, too), no pets allowed at all, not even fish or pet birds!

Luckily, I OD on the ducks at the lake a lot, except I can't protect or take care of them, so I never know if they will be alive from day to day.

You know we normally raise 100+ mallards a year but getting into the ornamental we only raised 6 I think and they were from a next I found. We normally are covered up with Mallards but this year the hens didn't lay at all.. I think we has maybe 10 hatch we didn't catch off the pond but that is not normal. We think since we had some wild canadians next on our small island between our ponds this year that the mallards nested elsewhere and must have lost their eggs or something. it was really strange!

Anyway.. I kind of miss them though they are descturctive. We probably have 60 on the pond right now but we need s ome hens.. we will probably order babies next year again.

Well as long as you can go to the lake you should be OK. Are you allegic to ducks? I see our white mallards sometimes when duck hunting (now everybodys not gonna like me

) but we always let em go by. Opening days tommorrow. I went to one of our city pond today and saw gw teal, redheads, buffleheads, one widgeon ,one ruddyand a trio of mallards. Pretty cool. We feed in the winter there sometimes to make them stay longer and see what comes in.

we have a white mallard that has been flying in with a wild group. I haven't seen them though since hunting season starting.

I'm not sure if I'm allergic, I think I've noticed my allergies get worse when there's about 150 coots, pigeons and ducks around or if I touch or handle any of the birds, but I haven't had any serious reaction, yet. I need to get more immersed in them or go to a indoor poultry show to really see how sensitive I am. I'm extremely allergic to mammals, especially cats, and get serious asthma if they're kept indoors, especially. I mostly need to find someone who keeps ducks or chickens and help them clean their coop, etc, to see how I react.

Our hunting season started over a month ago and goes until, I think, the end of January. I hope none of the ducks that left go into the hunting zones, especially the females as we're short of females here. Most of my favorite summer male ducklings can't fly because they're hybrids and Ducky, Curly and Sir Francis are the only "regular" drakes I follow and I think they're all sticking around. But, in reality, the number of males in this area need to be trimmed down or some of the females are going to get injured during mating season.
