Mallard Duck Advice Required Please

Does this mean your going to be keeping these for life? That’s actually sad about them being euthanized we’re seeing that here in the states with our Muscovy. You could try to wrap does she ever put the leg down? Ever heard of perosis or slipped tendon? Might want to read up on it.
Tagging @casportpony about ideas on wrapping. Soaking in nice warm Epsom salt can help with swelling and also make muscles relax.

I will have to. The other two will most likely be released on a farm dam, I try to keep them wild so they are able to be released, just not a public waterway where they could be euthanized. I also have 8 Muscovies, love them to bits however I understand how they can be destructive. She never puts the leg down - she uses it so scratch her head actually...

Thank you for the tag. I will wait to hear re the wrapping.

Aww I love my Muscovy they are awesome ducks. That’s why I mentioned slipped tendon the hock fuses because they can’t straighten out the leg. Usually there is swelling in the knee area an inflammation.

@Miss Lydia. I did some research up on the slipped tendon. Based on what I have seen I believe this to be the case. I an unaware how long this poor thing has been suffering but will attempt the treatment as I have read up online (slipping the tendon back into place) however I fear it might be too late. My course of action at this point will be to get some vit b complex, give him a nice luke warm Epsom salt bath and once the joint is warm I will try to wrap it into a slightly more natural position. And then as was recommended, provide a more tactile material to provide better grip.

@casportpony . The leg can be "manually" moved but up until a point and then he starts to quack, which to me indicates some sort of pain.

@Miss Lydia . I was able to purchase some vit. B complex this evening and gave him some over his evening peas. Thank you for the advice.

@Miss Lydia . I gave him some more Vit B over the pea's this morning. I soaked his leg in some luke warm water with dissolved Epsom salts and attempted to see if there is a slipped tendon. He really started quacking and seemed in pain when I started fiddling. I did manage to wrap the leg in some bandage to a slighly straighter position but not much. This eve I will again soak the leg in some Epsom salts.

Again, thank you all for the assistance. It means the world to me.

I bet it's painful. All you can do is try your best, like you said not knowing how long it's been this way. Did they give you an idea on age?

I'd say if your going to make progress soaking in warm ES water and maybe some massage while soaking too might help. You just never know till you try. There are a lot of ducks with one leg that live good lives. Not in the wild they'd most likely be picked off pretty quick but in a home where they can manage with one leg. It's amazing how they can adapt given a chance.
