Last spring a momma Mallard was crossing the street with her babies behind her, when a huge truck came speeding down the road killing her and 4 of her 5 babies! I was able to catch the remaining, days maybe week, old baby. I put her in with my 3 week old chicks and she has grown up as one of the pack! She acts just like a chicken! Even sleeps up on the perch with them! She has recently started laying eggs. Is it possible that my rooster, whom she is great friends with and follows around all day long even quacks after every crow he makes, to mate with her? Is it possible?

I have seen roosters making sweet love to ducks many times. Nothing has yet to be hatched from the before mentioned good times bad times situation.

My Newfoundland dog is best friends with my rescue mallard and no Newfiemals yet! lol

But seriously, do you have pictures? I would love to see some!

My Rouen Drake has mounted a couple of my chickens. Silly things are happy to oblige him. No Duckins or Chucks yet!

Your rooster may mate with her, but it will not result in fertile eggs. Far better than a drake mating hens where there is the potential for physical damage.

Yikes! Is there???? Not good then.....I push him off, but only because it seemed...well wrong. Dang there is so much I still need to learn! Thanks for the heads up....

They are biologically too far apart, not like a horse and donkey, more like a cat and a dog... they might be friends but will never make babies.

If you are curious look up the scientic name the more different the name the less likey babies can be made.

See how many of those are the same? all the way to 'subgenus'

Now Ducks and chickens

(chicken)

See how different they are? That's why there are no babies.
