I was sooooo dumb!!! I trusted my 2 labs outside with my 4 little ducklings for 5 mins!!!!! I went out and my little mallard was hanging out my dogs mouth!!!! I thought she was dead, but she was breathing...she was isolated that day from the others & got special treatment. I dont think anything is broken, no bite marks, she is eating and drinking now...but she still acts "weird". she is less hyper than the other ducks, slower, sleeps more, when she stands she does not stick her neck up like the others, also her eyes arent open as wide as the others...do yall have any suggestions to what may be wrong with her? will she live? should I do something differently with her? these are my first ducklings she is about 2 1/2 weeks old. thanks!!!!!

Might want to take it to a vet cause there might be something internal going on.

My dog did the same thing one time but it was with and Iguana and he didnt have any bite marks or anything visable but started acting slugish (just like your duck) and not like normal and 2 days later he was dead. Come to find out he had internal bleeding.

Hope this helps

I am so sorry to hear about your duckling. I had an incident with one of our dogs and a duck, and it didn't turn out good.

I would think that since the duckling is eating, and drinking that it should be ok. I would try adding a poultry vitamin pack to the drinking water, It won't hurt any of them, and may be beneficial for the injured one. They are supposed to be good for stressed ducks. Make sure he is not being run over by the others, and if needed separate him/her until she/he recovers. Don't beat yourself up.

Good luck!

thanks yall I appreciate it. I would def. take it to the vet but there is only 1 in my area I dont think she deals with ducks...but its been about 4 days now...Im just still worried!!! where can I get duck vitamins?

As long as it is an aviary vet and you just take the duck in they should help you if you tell them wat happened because they do know how to deal with birds and how to take X-rays and stuff like that on them to make sure nothing is wrong. And normally feed stores have it.

Hey, I just posted on the thread MY FIRST DUCKLINGS regarding niacin for you. If you get a vitamin pack, which can be found at your local feed store, it should have niacin in it. So your duckling would be getting vitamins and niacin. I got my from Metzer Farms when I order by Harlequins. You can check their website to cross reference what they have in there vitamin pack compared to your local feed store. I am sure it's all the same.
