I was wondering if the duck in the first pic was a purebred mallard. It seems to have a really short thick neck and big body. I'm assuming the rest of them are.

Oops, I should have clarified a bit. If it's a young duck, before the male coloring comes in, then it looks like a Mallard drake with that thick neck. If it's an older duck, then yes, it's probably a Rouen.

not to disagree again but my mallard drake looked nothing like that in the neck as a youngster. The only similarity was the dark plumage which is normally that of a young drake. Otherwise the body type doesnt match up at all.

BTW the other reason it's a rouen is because it has two lines one on teh eye and the other below...mallards dont have that

which you can see well in the OPs first picture, coming from the base of her beak up towards her eye somewhat. As a duckling that would have been more obvious.

Not sure of age. It is the same size as a mallard just bigger body. It can fly pretty good too. The lady i got it from said it had been laying. I've had it for about 1 1/2 months and haven't seen an egg. It has the loud female quack. It has just starting growing its feathers back in from molting. I am looking to rehome it and another Rouen i have free to a good home. It's about 8 months old. They are used to being free ranged all day and locked up at night.

I bought four "appleyard" ducklings about 3 months ago.
we think that we have 2 girls and 2 boys. it would also be helpful to know if they are appleyards or a different breed of duck.
thankyou :D
