My neighbor brought me his mallard hen as she was stumbling. I thought initially she had a niacin deficiency so gave her nutritional yeast and fed her a niacin enriched feed. Then I noticed she keeps opening her mouth as if yawning. She is not coughing or sneezing or showing any respiratory distress. I treated her with ivermectin for gapeworm but she has not improved. She is laying, eating and drinking. Her poop is mushy tan colored. She is still stumbling. Any ideas.what is going on with her? No vets in my area treat ducks. She is no worse but no better. I cannot see any obstruction and she eats just fine. There is no nasal discharge.

I do not know what might be going on with you mallard. This is the second report of a duck "yawning" I have read about today the other was a duckling that was otherwise normal. Your mallard seems to be otherwise eating and behaving normally, too.

I suggest you keep a close eye on her and wait and see as you have done all the right things. Please get back to us if there are any developments. Good luck
