Do female mallards only lay seasonally?
I have 5 mallards I'm raising. :)
400

I plan of clipping their wings to prevent them flying away.
But, will they lay consistently if raised in captivity and on a good diet?
They are only around a month old now.
(One duckling is 2 weeks older than the others, though.)
Any feed back would be great.
If they only lay in the spring, I might trade a few for a good laying domestic breed.

Mine lay during the spring and sometimes a short time in the fall. They were not breed to be good layers. You'd be better off with KCs or Runners if you're looking for layers.

Yeah, that's what I figured. Mallards are still pretty much 100% wild.
I'm getting 2 KC and 1 lil blue/black runner in a week or 2 from an old teacher of mine.

Thanx.
