A chick pipped at 9 ish last night on the small end, this morning it had made no progress before I went to work at 7.30, I came home at 1 and still nothing, I had a chick hatch through the night so took this out and put it in the brooder, I have another 2 eggs in the incubator as well as this one but neither of them have pipped, I have taken a bit of shell of the pipped egg and it chirps but I can't see veins, it has the white outer membrane but I can't see veins in the inner membrane, infack I can't see anything as the chick is so dark, can anyone offer any advice please

When a chick pips at the wrong end it skipped the internal pip stage, so I add around 7 hours to the "normal" or expected time they take from external pip to zipping. I.e. leave it until it's been around 26-30 hours after you first noticed the pip and if there's no progress investigate to see if it's ready to come out. I found that depending on the position of the chick they do sometimes manage to hatch by themselves, but if yours is stuck be prepared to help a little.
