Mama Duck just had to show off her new babies! :)

I was just goingt to change my signature to add them, no, I have never had ducks before, I have stories guide to raising poultry though, and I am finding some good things to know about them. I thought that if they had a dark bill they were automatically boys, I think that they are because they both are larger and a lot different than the girl, I am not allowed even one more duck so I will have to get rid of one of my boys :( It makes me sad to even think about it, won't the other two be very sad for a while? If they are not in direct eyesight of each other when I pick the up they thrash and peep until they see the others :/

Mr. Holderread's assistant told me he no longer breeds for the sex-link bill, and using bill color has become unreliable with his WH. As many people start their WH flocks from his stock, I would guess that bill color is no longer a good predictor. Wait for the quack at 3-6 weeks to see if you have any girls.

Oh my gosh! I was looking at the pictures and it's amazing to remember how small they were once!! They are huge and getting their feathers in now! Also they are quacking now so i know for sure that i have 1 girl and 2 boys :( parents said that if I couldn't find another girl one of the boys were going in the stewpot with the meat chicks :( Nobody seems to breed WH and sell them one at a time around here!!!! :/

I'm interested in learning more about this breed too. Yours are adorable!

Thanks, I will take some pics of them today to show everyone how much they grow. The Welsh Harlequin Duck isn't a very well known breed but it is wonderful, they are calm, good egg layers, good for meat ( I don't even want to think about that part) and gorgeous all at the same time!! They need more publicity and more dedicated breeders to take them off of the critically endangered list. I hope to be one of them :)

If you want to help the breed from being so endangered, you will only want to breed quality stock only... If you are breeding hatchery stock, its not going to help at all really. They sure are cute though!!

We have a Welsh Harlequin named Scarlet. She was very feisty as a duckling, thus the name. Well she grew into a true southern belle. Very prim, oh so sweet, generally very quiet, a true lady....We love her!!!

I bought them from a breeder so I hope that they are better than hatchery quality :p
