My guineas went broody on 05/09 and 2 more on 05/20. The one we call mama hatched the first one today! Hope more hatch for her in the next couple of days. She hatched out 4 last year, but is laying on a lot more eggs this year.
2 more hatched today, another lavender and a pied. I tried to take more pictures but the adults are a little jumpy when I get too close. Will try again tomorrow. Do not know who the "father" is. I have pearl, lavender, white and pied males.
Well one of the lavender keets died today. It drowned in the drinking water. I had stones in the lip of the waterer but it still managed to get it's head down between two of the stones and died. Good news is that the other guinea mom hatched out 3 keets today, two pied and one white!! I tried to get more pics today but mama took a nip out of my hand, so gave up and will try agian in a day or two.
Good luck with the rest of the babies. I've always heard young keets could drown - I guess I believe it now. Too bad the mamas couldn't rescue their youngster. Are you expecting anymore to hatch out, or are the hens done laying now?
I now have at least 6 keets that hatched (maybe 7-8, they are not all running around the coop at one time with some of them under one of the moms and some out). Saw another egg that hatched but could not see the keet from it (probably under the mom.) Both moms are still sitting on the eggs so more could still hatch. Guess I'll know more in the next few days. About an hour before all the other guinea went in for the night the little keets climbed into the nest boxes with the two moms and called it a night. My mamas are really doing a good job!!!
