My broody mama with 3 adopted babies has now laid an egg and last night she slept on the roost instead of on the ground nest with her babes. I haven't seen her peck them away yet, but yesterday she was spending more time away from them than had been normal. The chicks are 4.5 weeks old, some feathers, some fluff. The next five days have overnight low temps in the 50s (lowest currently anticipated to be 52). Our coop is not drafty; and I don't have electric out there. Will the chicks be ok in those temps huddled together? Or do I need to get them from the coop at night and put them somewhere with heat? They have been integrated with the flock with mama since week 1, so they are used to sleeping in the coop, just not without a warm mama! Pic of the babies!
