This is the first time I've had a broody hen and am so excited at the thought of having chicks.
I have about 12 eggs that my little hen has been sitting on. She built a nest about 5' off the ground, knowing that it was getting close to hatching time I rehomed her and her eggs to a much safer location. She didn't agree. I quickly assembled an incubator and the eggs seem to be fine. I just candled the eggs, and I have 2 definite healthy chicks. The other 8 eggs I have no idea what's going on. The air sac is not fixed and when I cracked one open it has a weird consistency and no evidence of a chick - could these eggs have had some sort of bacterial issue, or could they just be unfertilized eggs?
I'd hate to give up on eggs if they may be viable, but also don't want to try to hatch eggs that just wont.
Hope everyone is having a fantastic day!
