I have 2 EE chicks being raised by my silkie. I also have 2 bantam babies in another tub with a Buff O baby. The ones with a mama are crazier and flightier than the chicks with me for a mama. They chirp when they hear me, but the chickies with the silkie are all about her and distrustful of me....I guess they get this from their overprotective mom.

Very interesting to watch. Almost like a biology project.

The babies with my broody are VERY wary of me. I think it is because the mama is always telling them "thats the crazy lady who comes in and talks to us"....

It's because the chicks that are with the mom KNOW that they're chickens and that you're not. So, since you're not "one of them" then you might be something that is going to kill them. The chicks raised by you think that you are just a big version of them and aren't as wary of you.

It is my first time using my hen for a mom instead of me raising the chicks, so I'm interested in seeing how they turn out overall. My flightiest chick from another batch has now become a lap chicken, begging for attention. She's an EE as well and on my favorites list...whcih is a big reason I wantwd more of them.

Perhaps I will do an experiment and get 2 more EE chicks to raise myself and do a comparison of personality.

It will give me another reason to get more chicks....
