So one of my bantam cochins went broody a couple of months ago. Of her clutch, she only had one of my Buff Orpington chicks hatch. I've noticed that for the past few days that she hasn't come running during feeding time like usual. Well today I went in to clean out my duck pen and found her tucked away inside a dog house. She of course started screeching at me when she saw me. I coaxed her out with some mealworms and was able to count 10 bantam eggs. I candled them and 5 out of 10 are fertilized and developing. They look like maybe they're on day 3. Not much veining at the moment but the air cells and obvious signs of development are there. So I stuck the 5 eggs back in the nest she had made and left her be. I'm not worried about additional eggs being added as my one other bantam is currently sitting on a clutch of eggs in a brooder box. My other hens are EE's and Buff Orpingtons so it will be pretty obvious if any are added. Plus my other hens have their designated spots where they always lay.
This hen just hatched a chick about 4 weeks ago. Is it normal for them to go broody again so soon?
