Mamma gave up on eggs too early!

Has the power come back on? we had some chicks in the incubator during Harvey and the power went out. We wrapped the incubator in towels but in the morning all of them were cold. None of them survived.:hit
I’m so sorry!! That must have been very heartbreaking. Was your house affected? That was a horrible storm. I used to live in Houston, so I know many people who lost their homes due to the flooding. Yes, the power outage only lasted about 45 minutes. One is still moving! I’m hoping she will be able to hatch even though she has been through so much.

We weren't affected by Harvey at all, all that happened was the power outage and a lot of branches everywhere. But everything is fine now. we got 35 eggs from a friend and 9 hatched. One, who was the smaller than my pinky in length, didn't survive her second night. The other 8 are still cute and fluffy we have confirmed that 2 are Roos.

Yay! That’s so exciting! Congrats on the little puff balls! Sorry about the roos though o_O

Wait. I just realized that still air incubators are supposed to have a higher temp then forced air. Correct? I have been following the instructions for the incubator and it says to aim for 99.5 while everything else says go for 100.5 for still air. Which one should I be following?

What day should I put the eggs on lock down? I know it is generally day 18, but I don’t remember what day I set them. I don’t know when day 18 is. Based on size of the embryo, my guess is around day 16 or 17. If I am wrong and put the eggs on lockdown too early, will it kill them?

I candled and the one was still moving! The other I am almost positive will not hatch. I can’t see any blood vessels and the air cell has become foggy and half detached.

I am still waiting to see if my lone egg will hatch. I wish I had an incubator but I they one they sell at tractor supply is a big one and I don't plan on doing this again. Using a heating pad I have struggled to have the temp right so who knows. I don't understand how a hen can keep a temp at a steady temp though....
