So, we had chickens a number of years ago in an improvised coop arrangement. The eggs were the best, but we were too busy at the time and so ended up sending the layers to a friends house. Now that the kids are much older we are diving back in again and we are exceptionally excited.
Wife and I have 2 teenagers and we let them talk us into a variety of chickies last month; 2 polish, 2 silkies, 4 RI Red, 4 Barred Rock and 4 Ameraucanas. We are on 5 acres near San Antonio but most of the usable land is behind the house so I've been cruising the plans section to get a handle on how big the darned coop and run need to be. We want to do this right.
Incredibly glad to have found BYC and i'm looking forward to finding lots of guidance.
I just purchased the BYC Building Coops for Dummies, but just browsing the forums has been helpful already.
Any local San Antonio owners with coop guidelines for lots of heat?
