I hope the same was between lady Amherst and golden pheasants that hybridization was not possibleAs Dylan duck said they are great flyers and climbers and have to have a top on their pen. Gamebird feed or layer pellets are fine for them. The bigger the pen the better as they are nervous birds and will fly up against the fence if you are in the pen. They can be kept together without having to worry about hybridization as mandarins have an extra chromosome. However, sometimes our wood duck drakes will prefer a mandarin hen and vice versa but all eggs will be infertile. The ducklings of both species can also be very hard to raise but if they calm down and start eating they do fine. Good luck with them they are great birds!
Where do you get the extra chromosome in mandarins? I know the literature and that is not true...Give me a literature citation for that...As Dylan duck said they are great flyers and climbers and have to have a top on their pen.
