Mandarin Duck thread ( for posting pictures and discussing)

Got these guys hatching yesterday. 6 of 7 out, 1 left in the incubator. Just love the white one's! Will get more pics later! Ignore the khaki campbells, they were teaching them to eat & drink.

Very nice! What is ur average humidity when you incubate them? What kind of incubator do you have?

I have a kitty pool that I don't use and I was wondering if I could use that for a swimming pool for my mandarin ducks and ducklings. I will put gripping tape on the sides.

I let my hen brood them in her nesting box and brought them in and put in a little giant incubator when we saw them starting to hatch. I only let them hatch inside. Tried to vent sexy them tonight and I have no more clue than when I started, lol. The last egg is still alive and looks to be trying to pip internally. I hope one of the whites is a drake. Anyone know how close you can breed like if whites were hens and I wanted to breed back to dad?

i thought females decided the drakelets color and male ducks decided the ducklets color. So if keeping that in mind if u just breed a split male to a white female, you should get white males, with some white females.

breeding sibling with sibling or parents with children is ok but I wouldn't go more than two generations.

So according to that all my white ducklings are female. Kind of a bummer but better than nothing! Thank you!

Cool. I wouldn't breed further down than that. I would get another drake or hen in the rotation to breed with anything produced out of a parent/sibling or sibling/sibling hatch. Just wanted to make sure it was ok to do and would not be detrimental towards the offspring or future breeding stock. Since it is my first ever Mandarin hatch I really wanted to keep the whites.

The last egg tried to hatch but didn't absorb the yolk sack and died. Too bad too cuz it was pure freaking white, no yellow down at all. Pretty bumbed.

I say keep them all chances are you'll get a white male sooner or later
