Maran egg color. Need advice please

I see pictures on the internet of maran eggs that are so dark. Why are my maran eggs only slightly dark?

How old are they? Egg color gets lighter after time. The ancestry makes a difference for sure. I am sure others can add reasons.

Farm supply - they are hatchery chicks. You need to get Marans from a breeder if you want the really dark eggs.

Do you have an incubator? If so, there's lots of people here you can order eggs from and they send them wrapped in the mail. Wynette has gorgeous birds, eggs and her shipping is fantastic. (I'm in CA too and have received eggs from her) There are lots of others, just spend some time in the Marans thread and see what you like. There's Black copper, Blue copper and wheaten now.
