Ok these eggs are so dark and all I have to candle with is a LED flashlight, which seems to be working for the most part. All I can see are the air sacks. There are a few that I can see a defining air sack on but I am afraid to toss.... also, some of the ones with air sacks have BIG air sacks like almost as if where the top of a baseball, not a round sack on top but space on the side also, if that makes sense.

does anyone know whats going on? this is my first hatch using just a bator, I used a broody before with a bator for a few of the eggs and all went well...I am trying NOT to stress!!!

I usually don't don't candle my Marans eggs because they are too dark. I would just leave them be and see what happens since you only have a few days left. Good Luck with your hatch!!!!!!

The further along the chick is inside=larger air sac

Someone on here had posted an egg progression/comparison chart but I don't happen to know the thread off hand. I wouldn't toss any eggs.

So how did the hatch go? I am currently on day 11 of my hatch of marans eggs and it's getting hard to tell if they're moving.

soory to hear. what do u think may have caused the problem.??

the general consensus is that it was more than likely temp issues. Some seemed to be dead around day 12 others day 14 or 15 so just unsure why exactly. I have been told by many that marans are just plain hard to hatch and they think it might be b/c of the shell being tougher than other birds. I have read that some people sand the big end of the egg a little for better air intake and so they can break out easier.

this round I thought i was going to get 2 BCMs and 4 cuckoos and couldn't see anything in the others at all... well this morning marks day 22 and we're still hatching. So far 3 BCMs and 6 Cuckoos... with 2 more pips.

If you have any suggestions, please let me know. My marans are due to hatch on 4/10 and I'm hoping for a good hatch. I've read about people opening eggs about day 25 and many chicks being fully developed but never hatched. Just wondering if you opened the rest of yours and what you found inside. Do you think it would be a good idea to crack the egg a little on day 22 to help them out? Any other suggestions?
