My friend's bantam frizzle was half-broody. She laid a clutch of 14-15 eggs in a feed sack and would sit on them at night, but in the daytime she'd run around in the yard. Occasionally she'd sit on them for a few minutes, but would get up again and abandon them for awhile. It could be because this was her first attempt at brooding, but we decided to intervene and emptied her nest.
Ten of the eggs showed development. I took them home and put them in my incubator. Yesterday when they'd warmed up I candled them to see how they were. Nine appear to be ok from what I can tell, but the tenth is swishy and the air sac isn't stable. When you tilt it you can see the liquid inside flooding the air sac- not good.
The others might be 1-2 weeks along, though it varies because they weren't all laid at once.
Have any experience with rescuing eggs from an unsure broody? What do you think the chances of success are?
