Maran or Barred Rock

I have barred rocks not marans(well I have Wheaten and Black copper) and my BR ladies lay that dark..mine are not crosses just boring Barred Rocks that lay as faithfully as the family dog comes for a treat.

My sex link eggs from my girls we bred are equally dark.

That is a barred rock. The comb is actually normal size, and they can lay any shade of brown (just not maran brown). That egg is to light to be a maran egg.
