My latest hatch is Marans and Wyandotte. I have sold a few chicks and have 16 remaining. That’s quite a lot for me and I have had success in the past rehoming 2 or 4 cockerels but I’m thinking finding homes for 8 or 9 is going to be near impossible. My cockerels always seem to start crowing at 12 weeks, and I can’t have too much crowing where I am. So, anyone know what weight you can expect from marans and Wyandotte when processed at 12 weeks? Pretty small I imagine, but enough meat for two?

Easily... enough meat for two.

And, two really tasty breeds! :drool

At 16 weeks from most of my heritage birds... we get 2- 2.5 pounds, skinned.
Thank you very much for your reply. So I probably need to keep them until 14-16 weeks or so to get 2lbs? Anything less than that probably isn’t worth the effort and I wouldn’t want to cull them as chicks or that little life has gone completely to waste. I think if they are crowing for 2-3 weeks it’s not going to be too much of an issue, I’ll just make sure they are shut in a dark coop until 9am :)
