Marans in the incubator. :)

Also, just for fun: hatching eggs I'm saving for a friend who wants to set mixes this weekend. It's so fun picking them out.

5 out this morning (#9, #6, #7,#13 and #14), including one of the olive eggers who I de-bagged and banded before putting her back in the incubator for company. They are strong and healthy.

#8 was dead in shell. I felt like #8 needed help, and when I picked it up it was already dead. I had seen a chip of eggshell, so I knew it had pipped on the underside about 18 hours prior. It looked like it had started to zip, but then stopped. I couldn't see this until I picked it up. When I opened it up it seemed totally ready to hatch, and not shrink-wrapped. Just dead.

#14 right next to #8 had been rocking a lot but I hadn't seen any pip, so I picked it up to check the bottom, and it looked just like #8, pipped on bottom, started to zip sideways (around the egg the long way) and then stopped, with the membrane drying out. I assisted this chick and it got out fine!

I also enlarged the hole and wet the membrane of #4 that pipped 18-20 hours ago, same time as #8. That one also pipped face down. It's alive and cheeping, but if it doesn't make progress in another few hours I'll assist that one too.

#11 pipped on the side, not through the air cell, almost 24 hours ago. It is not ready to hatch yet, but I wet the membrane and I can see the beak breathing. I know this one will probably need another 18-24 hours additional time because if they don't pip into the air cell, you count the external pip as the time they would have internally pipped if they'd been positioned correctly.

#1,#2,and #3 have good looking pips.
Nothing from #12 yet.
