Marans not laying eggs yet at 8 months

Some of my BCM's came from South Carolina too. They hatched on the 7th of June and just started laying a week ago. That's just under 7 months. I'm near the Canadian boarder so very short days in winter. Did you happen to get your birds from Raising Phoenix Farms? Heather was the very nice woman I spoke with.

I got them from a woman named Heather and I think that's her but she's sold all of her stock and doesn't breed anymore. I'm right down the road from her in Richburg SC so she just met me somewhere.

Seems unlikely that there are two people named Heather that are both selling show quality BCM's near Richburg.. but the site for Raising Phoenix Farms is offering hatching eggs today. I think we probably both have stock from the same line. I'll bet your hens start laying in few days, let us know?

My wheaten marans, Fancy Nancy, was purchased as a chick in mid February, and layed on September 12, so right about 7 months.

I have two BCM pullets who hatched on July 1st, and I'm still waiting on eggs from them. I'm curious if they'll lay sometime this month, or wait for spring. So I'll wait with you!

It's her, the phone number is the same. However before you order anything I'd message her. Like I said I talked to her a few days ago and she told me she sold her stock of chickens to breed frenchies.

I just wanted to confirm we had the same stock. So your hens are quite likely to have a similar laying schedule. I won't be ordering any more eggs. I'll be incubating a 2nd generation soon. All will have a Raising Phoenix Farms sire over his sisters or the Greenfire related hens.

1 just got my first BCM pullet egg in quite some time on 1-10 at 19 wks. Still waiting on the other 4 to start. My Black Silver Marans is 30 wks and hasn't started yet.

Oh I gotcha! Yes definitely the same. Mine are very adventurous. Have big personalities. I adore them and was hoping to get some more which is why I contacted Heather. Wish I had gotten a roo from her.

As BCM are a dual purpose breed, show lines often tend to the heavier, more meaty side which take longer to mature.
I find this to be true with mine (their not show). But I'm chomping at the bit to select thru the boys at 20 wks. And I know that's really too early.
