Marans Thread for Posting Pics of Your Eggs, Chicks and Chickens

Jennifer, I have pretty much the same issues with the birds I've kept (not surprising, since they're from the same place). I don't know who's laying what, yet, either. My kind of "for now" solution has been to remove everything that is questionable from the Marans pen altogether...but not to destroy them. They're in the laying flock. I'm going to try to build up numbers a little with the best that I have right now, and then re-evaluate when that first generation crop comes of age. Hopefully, by then I'll even have some breeder pens!

The copper on the roo's breast is really minimal.

I'd love to swap eggs with you when I can get these guys separated and selected. I changed roos today, last time. I decided he is nicer than the one with a touch more copper.

Dick Dickerson has posted a reassuring response now, but I'm still totally confused as to what's going on. I rather wish I didn't know anything at ALL. This is one of those cases in which ignorance is bliss.

I'll have to second and third being blissful...it's been weeks and weeks since I've been over to the Yahoos and clubs to look around...for reasons....sorry to hear there are issues? Because that is still where the old lines are...the U.S. Foundation Marans Flocks exist with alot of the people who belong on those Yahoo "groups"....I hope things work out, we have a lot to learn from them.

Are the older Marans lines you speak of the Fugate or Ripley i often used to hear mentioned? I don't know anything about these breeders nor do I ever remember theactual people themselves being referred to. People used to refer to having Marans from one of these lines but when one saw the pictures of the eggs the colour was nearer to that of RIR?

I am not meaning to cause offense. I remember, when I still lived in EU, seeing the photos of the eggs & wondering what was going on there. I don't know anything about either of these lines & was curious as to how they really relate to the poor egg colour that used to be around (& may still be for all I know).
