Marans Thread for Posting Pics of Your Eggs, Chicks and Chickens

My Cuckoo Marans eggs from okcarla are doing fantastic!
Out of 12 eggs, I have 8 chick and at least 1 more hatching

One of the reasons I chose Orpingtons was for their reputation for broodiness. Well, I haven't had an Orpington hen yet that didn't quit on her clutch (but a couple are setting now who might break that streak). HOWEVER, during my Marans' first spring, I have three that are broody right now. One is particularly hardcore, but at the time she went broody, I had promised people some Marans eggs, so I couldn't spare any. My solution was to stick 5 turkey eggs under her.

I haven't even been counting the days, because frankly, I figured she'd quit them. But, today, when I checked under her, I heard peeping, and saw this!

I swore I would NEVER brood any more turkey poults. UGH! But hey, if someone else wants to do it, and outside, to boot, who am I to argue?

I've got 9 (out of a dozen) Cuckoo Marans chicks hatched

The pipped egg pictures make me so excited, just from looking. I think hatching eggs is the closest feeling to Christmas morning as a little kid.

I am still debating over whether my cuckoo Marans are all roos or what. I'm so confused. Here are the updated pictures, what do you think? They are all so light colored...
