Sold my beauties (the black coppers) they went to a friend of mines friend ahh what the heck I consider him a friend too great guy! Anywho, sold my babies but atleast I'll get to hear about them and see pictures and visit them if I even wished to which is nice because I'm attached to those buggers.

I started to sell them and was getting out of marans completely, but I fell into something and I'm excited to say that as of saturday or sunday in my incubator will be somewhere around 2 doz Golden Salmon Marans! I don't remember all the details, but these guys that I know of aren't feather shanked but my new GSM partner and I will be concerning ourselves with that later and focusing on egg and feather color. That I know if this is a rare color of Marans, they remind me a lot of wheatens in a way but with suttle differences. The chicks look completely different too from what I have seen.

Anywho, so what turned into a sad thing (me selling my marans) has turned into something more exciting a rarer line that is a recessive color (least what I was told so far) and that what I was wanting a color that is recessive so theres nothing that can hide under it.....again atleast from what I've learned so far. ANYWHO, going to give it a shot and am very excited about it!

I get half of what hatches from these eggs and the other half goes to my wonderful new marans partner who lives just minutes down the road! I will deffinatly be happy to update you all on the eggs and then the chicks and the birds just as I did with my BCs.

I will miss my BCs but there was too much drama in them for my liking hoping theres less in the GSMs.

In the mean while playing around with call ducklings and silkies ...im in heaven hehe.

I was kinda figuring there's a LOT of drama everywhere in Marans. I mean really... I just focus on the NICE and helpful and informative people and dodge the whackos. Fortunately on line you can delete or refuse to read idiocy when you see it. People get intense, I think the internet makes it worse.

But I have met more grand and good friends online than I would want to part with, just to avoid the nutcases and power maniacs.

I used to show dogs, I got used to picking out the drama and power freaks early. Smile and nod... drive home talking sense to the steering wheel because it would listen better than they would have, and be more pleasant.

I love Marans, I've watched the weirdness. When people get intense and there's money involved, it's always going to get weird somewhere.

What's important is we who care and aren't going to freak out on you. I'm glad you found birds to work with, that's what it's all about, major congrats and glad you stuck with it.

I'm going to stick with these GSMs having a partner to work with on them makes all the difference now when I feel like I don' tknow where to turn I have her which really REALLY helps in this breed I think!

It also helps that GSM roos still remind me of the lovely BC roos can't go wrong with that sort of beauty!

The makings of something new

Yellow Cuckoo

We have one cockeral and one pullet to work with.

It will be interesting to see what hatches out of these.

WOW!!! Do please show the egg color!!! How hard is it to get color back after you outcross?

I was thinking about doing a lavender marans, but the egg color just seemed a lost cause.

Here is an up and coming group of marans, mostly copper black. You can see one of the pullets already has a TON of copper on her neck. That is from the Copper Breasted roo I showed the other poster. In the lower right corner is a younger carbon copy of the copper roo, early comb development and mellow personality and all. Can you spot the imposter trying to pass himself off as a marans?

The one with the leg band is a plain ol' black marans. There is a girl in there somewhere with a blue plastic tie wrap on her leg that is his pair.

No outcrossing here. these are something we have been playing with from Golden Cuckoo Lines.

Parent egg color is 4 -6, we are still waiting for the pullet.
