I'm getting more of the olive eggs. I noted something I find interesting and that is that the egg color is in the shell, like regular colored eggs, and not coated on the outside like the B.C. Marans egg color is. I wonder what happens to the "paint shute" in the mixed breeds? I also wonder what kind of chick/bird I will get once I set/hatch these eggs and what she will lay? I find this part of breeding fun....

ruth, I have noticed with my green eggs that the inside of the eggs are pure blue. Only the outside gets the brown pigment that turns it varying shades of green.

A question about blue copper...

Out of 6 Marans chicks, I have 4 cockerels....2 blue.

Both blues have a genetic defficiency with the outside, feathered toe.

One is almost normal with the nailed digit a little bit small and the other is missing several joints and has a stub.

My question is, has anyone noticed this outer toe problem to be linked to the blue coloring?

I have read that toe problems is linked to feather legs and in some breeds it is not a fault.

It's not related to the color, just to the feathered legs. I don't know of any breed in which toe deformities are not considered a fault. Can you name a few for us?

No, I just read it somewhere here.

Ruth I appreciate all your efforts and big time work for the Copper Marans. I have 1 and surely love their eggs and hope to set eggs in the future, the darker the better my customers love the surprise in their box.

I also have a dozen chicks that I ordered from Black Copper King right before he went out - truth be told I was NOT pleased with them when they first arrived compared to my other marans chicks. However, as they are growing out, they are becoming more and more what I what I would be considered ideal. Very sweet, very docile for the most part and just growing HUGE. Time will tell I am sure but I hope these babies will give me those gorgeous eggs Ruth has been getting!! I will keep you posted for sure, and I'll try to upload some pics of these guys.
