Yeah.. I know what happened... It has rained and rained... I threw enough grain and scratch in their run to last em... My guess is toxins.... Grain fermented... Stripped run today... DRAT... I was worried about that but didn't have a lot of options... (Should have moved the run at 10 when I came home... DANG.. Ya gotta watch that thing... I think it was a Jesse Bryant... Hopefully not a Cree.... I will look at them real close today!!! I have more of those than Cree... I will have to go up to the farm and get some more... Dang.. I do love those Cree birds.

Can't go wrong with Cree birds!

They make up the majority of my Marans flock, next behind that will be Wynette's when they hatch. 4 days left!!

I keep a flock of Jesse Bryant, Cree and Bayhorsebonne. The Bonne birds are the bulk of my flock... I have a bev pen with a splash bird... (blue pen)... I eat these...Not my focus... just cute birds. The bayhorsebonne birds lay the most spectacular egg as far as color and spots. For dark... that would be Cree, however they are matte in color.... It is a draw for me here.... I like Donna's birds for temperment over Cree. but The Cree is a 9 at times (almost black).... So ??? The shine and size of Donnas birds... It really throws me a curve... A mix between the two... Well we will see... that is a couple generations out I am afraid.... I haven't even started that direction.

I hatched out this FBCM on Feb 27 from shipped eggs. It was the only one to make it and he pipped at the small end of the egg so I had to help him out a bit. I don’t have any Marans his age to compare him too (3 others hatched in March) but I am thinking he is a “he”. What do you think? Notice the wattles are starting to get pink, the comb is still yellow though but the area beside the comb is starting to pink up.

I will be happy if he is a she! I wouldn't mind having one boy but surely wouldn't want ALL of them to turn out to be little roos!

Yeah all my Cree eggs I first got were matte but ONE, and it was just gorgously shiny and dark - A lot of people asked about it and said, "is that one wet?" I don not know which of my current chicks hatched out of it though, except I know it isn't my all black pullet. I marked the chick right after it hatched and again when it dried, but for some reason I never saw the marking again a couple days later.

All I know is that it was small and had a moderate amount of white. I'll be happy if it is a pullet, so I can spot out its eggs when it lays them. I'm really looking to get a lot more gloss in my flock!

9's you say, eh? Wow that gets my excitement - Wynette's current pullets gave me 8 eggs, gorgeous examples, but I've yet to see any darker.

But I can imagine that, as her adult hens lay some pretty dark eggs!
