They seem fine. You might just want to chance it too - Or ask more questions. I paid $60 per dozen for the eggs in my avatar, so 40 isn't bad at all.

The general public decides and her peers... The best references decide... The birds themselves. I like the Wade lines and I have had great transactions with these particular breeders.... I guess ultimately we who buy and are satified decide... The egg color and the faults... These ppl along with Bev are very open about their birds and practices. I think it is important to have a good dialogue open with the breeders so you don't reinvent the wheel again. It is nice to move the project forward and use tried "best practices" for the line that you are working with.

Ask one breeder about another... Integrity is what is the selling point when the birds are equally good. I have bought from other breeders...I didn't go back again. I continue to sing praises and order from the ones that treat me right and give what is promised. I am sorry you got a raw deal!!! That is aweful!!

I hope you are as delighted with them as I have been. I am not alone on this forum with such outstanding birds... I think the ppl that have them value them. I have some more from her due to hatch in a week... Please share your hatch with us!!! We would love to share the blessed event.

Here they are -- the flash washed out the color a bit. Some are REALLY dark (to me anyway) and others so-so. But I am pleased

Hopefully will get a great hatch because these were not shipped.

Thank you, I am so excited I can hardly wait. Today is day 1... I will update with the hatch with pictures of course. And I will be looking for advice on which ones to hold back to start my foundation when the time comes.

When you go to lockdown.... separate your darkest eggs into one sequestered spot where they can't get mixed... try and get a roo from that. Separate hatcher if you have it. You will want to use the darkest egg roo you can get. My hens still lay #8's at a year later.. They are in their 2nd year of laying and hold their color amazingly well. Get some bands while you wait so you can mark them.... You want the darkest eggies to be marked birds... That way if you get a roo you will know which to select from. It is important to take pictures... a lot... I like to take a picture of my darkie next to it's egg and then mark it's leg.. that way as we get busy etc... I will not forget... Plus keeping notes in a notebook... The more record keeping you do the less mistakes you will redo.

Thanks Geebs, that is a great idea! I have a hova bator gensis I can use at lockdown as an additional hatcher for the light color eggs, leaving the dark ones in the sportsman. Now I am going to get some of those bands to mark the dark egg chicks...

And that chick is just adorable!
