Copper Splash Pullet hatched July 4th 2009 (she is just now starting to show a little bit of copper randomly flecked throughout her body) She was only about 5 months old in the pic......she is the one that gives me that purplish colored egg.

We went to Bebee yesterday in search of nice BC marans. Had heard there were some last week up there. NOTHING, and I am determined to get nice ones or not get any. Don't really want to try to hatch eggs, because I am still learning on that one. Will just have to keep an eye out and hope I find some. I have a friend that has 40 eggs in an incubator, that are from really nice stock. Maybe I can get some of these. He got them from NW Ark, from some lady that had a whole bunch of really nice one. Supposely there is a Poultry show next week in Searcy, maybe I will go there and find something.

I know someone in Benton that has good BC Marans, and he's picky about what he keeps as breeding stock. I recently saw a beautiful cull of his, full grown roo, with a little to much red in the chest area, so I know for a fact he's culling hard for that. He has Bev Davis lines. He does go to Beebe sometimes but went to MO this weekend looking to buy other breeds. You can PM me if you want his name and contact information.

I haven't been to this thread in a while, so I'm happy to see everyone is getting such nice chicks this Spring already. My one Wheaten hen finally started laying again after a long cold winter, I put the male with her, she laid a few eggs, I cracked two to be sure they were fertile before I wasted incubator space, they were, but now she hasn't laid another for at least a week, more like 9 or 10 days Will I ever get more birds???

I have one more pretty young pullet coming along nicely, about half grown, keeping my fingers crossed!

Thank you!

Funny thing is it took a long time for him to grow on me. A few months ago my neighbor came over to pick up my excess cockerals (he likes to eat them) this boy was the last one I caught for him and just as I went to hand him over...I couldn't do it.... I tossed him right back in the pen.

For what its worth, I thought I'd remind everyone, that splash is a color the APA never accepts. I think its because a splash pattern is never the same so difficult to determine correctness, well, there is isn't one correct spash desigh. LOL

And, splash that are out of black coppers, are not the same as a splash out of "true blue or black" parents because that gold gene is still lurking and will show up.

There are some of us that are working on true blue Marans, and then the splash offspring will be useful in making blues. So far, to my knowledge, no one has a true blue rooster. pictures I've seen of what they call blue, always have either copper or birchen feathers. Hens, yes we have some.

I have some true black & 1 true blue chick in the brooder from Bev Davis, that came out of dark eggs. I'm excited to use a rooster, when they are old enough, on my blue hens to get my true blue chicks, & hopefully a few boys out of the bunch.

For some reason, splash hens just don't lay dark enough eggs. I don't know if its genetic, I would guess it is. So it will be interesting to see what happens with the next few generations.

You must know the guy that I got mine from! I really don't know him just know he's from Benton - he advertized some Davis chicks on Craigslist and I snatched them up!
