I don't get it either barred is dominate.....so the hen is splash cuckoo? I have Cuckoos let me go thru baby pictures

Took the help of dear Blackdotte....but I get it now ......with the splash having 2 copies of the blue gene, one for diluting black to blue and the other will dilute even further to splash, that would wipe out any possibility of physically seeing the barred/cuckoo gene on the bird. It would be just like any other splash but would be carrying the gene which is cool in my opinion. Me thinks I need to get one or two! A splash cuckoo would be fun to play around with and make all sorts of blue birds.

Finally in some breeds it is impossible to breed exhibition males & females from the same pen. They have in fact genetically become two separate breeds.

and hence it explains the division along the marans lines.... Egg or conformation. So I guess each person has to decide for themselves what the goal is... eggies or conformation... A decision may come down somewhere in between and until that happens.... ???? We are all up a stump

Thanks Blackdotte for that bit of insight

I know very little after breeding show fowl for close to fifty year and one thing I do know if you plan on showing most any parti color fowl you will have to double mate and single mate to raise exhibition fowl.

Geebs, any good builder will tell you that you have to have a good foundation before you can build.

Snowbird

And any builder can tell you also... That not all materials work in all applications. So the foundations may need to be different materials.

Maybe her background is the question? I had just hatched 6 around 2 weeks before and 3 looked dark with 3 looking like this, the beaks were different colors too

I have Lolita's first batch. All babies with white spots are boys and are showing barring on their wing feathers now. So I am assuming these are blue cuckoo? The females are dark blue/black color with no barring. If crossed what will be produced?

five new fcbms, day olds, since the last five seem to be a little heavy on testosterone. introduced them to a ten day broody (black java) hen who was looking bad in the 100 degree heat. hopefully she will take them under her wing!
