I am with Pink on this...I would like to know exactly what "imported lines" means... There is no domestic birds here.... The other possibility is a penedesenca cross.... It looks partridgey... The eggs came from a female marans. They do not look pene. I wonder if this person is not just handing down the same info they were given as I have heard this same description from another.... It happens without intent. They most likely will be forthcoming. Most ppl are.... Keep us posted as this transpires.. No matter what... cute chicks!!!

It was so hard to decide on the eggs and than to hatch them, I hope that these are hens.

We can only keep one rooster in Los Angeles. I live in a residential neighborhood. My next door neighbor just got chickens too including one male who was crowing non stop. He already got rid of him. Due to my daughter's daily urging, I'm going to try to keep one rooster. I'm just not sure how long to wait since they fight so much. Only one has all its feathers. My coop and run are full of black feathers and they keep charging each other and then bending low and giving each other the stink eye. I'm pretty sure one of my new Ameracauna chicks and one of the blue marans are males. The wait is painful.

I thought these were males since the 4th "female" bird has such a smaller and yellower comb but the "males" do look like your hens. Their feathers have a blue green sheen that the "female" doesn't and two have two tail feathers that are coming in green/blue....

How old is your Blue Marans that you are questioning?

They hatched June 8th and 9th. There's nothing visually apparent indicating it's a male but the attitude and aggression makes me think of a male.

I thought that about that same chick but I didn't say anything lol. May be a marans mixed with something else....

ETA: They sure are cute though!!!

Yeah I have pips on some of blue marans eggs I got from Peachick and one pip from one of my own Blue Copper girl's eggs. These are supposed to be due tomorrow lol.

All the ones that have brown & are showing autosomal barring in the juvenile feathers have had something crossed in. The autosomal barring only shows when the Pattern gene,Pg is present, this gene does not occur in any Marans variety. Pg is most commonly on Brown eb birds, again another gene that does not occur in any Marans variety.

That is funny as I have had that happen from nearly every breeder... No kidding.. The best breeders...

What do you suppose it is... I get this in my very best and darkest layers.... I knew there was a Partridge gene present because two of them creat a partridge bird... (correct?)

And yet at maturity they are black... or blue, whichever the case may have been.

Oh boy, I have 2 blue coppers hatched and 2 more blue copper eggs pipped. They are the tiniest things. I forgot to mention these are Bella's (my blue copper girl) very first eggs and they are little eggs. Plus, I had put 4 of them in the frigerator for 3 days because I wasn't planning on setting them, but then thought , 'what the heck' and pulled them out of the fridge and added 2 more black copper pullet eggs to them. I can't believe they are hatching after being in our fridge. Our fridge gets too cold and freezes the milk lol. I have 2 babies from Peachicks eggs out now.
Everyone of these babies are blue so far. No splash ~~whaaaaa..
I will get some pics tonight after dd brings my camera back. She went to the mudbogs with her friends and took my camera. My cell phone camera takes bad pics lol.
