I can imagine that it gets HOT! Great idea, I bet you can see something in there with light like that.

Nope don't put it on the glass.....I actually commit a NO NO and crack the bator open just enough for me to put the "COLD" end (I warm it up for the eggs, I don't put it on them cold, wish the doctors office could do that before they listen to your breathing) of the stethoscope on which ever egg I am wanting to check on, listen long enough to hear something or not hear something and shut the bator.

Ruth, you are not the only person who has stock from ther original Jeane lines. Fitgerald Farms bought stock long, long before they were dispressed by Wade, and they have also kept their line pure. That's just off the top of my head, I'm sure there are others. I do agree with you that the original W. Jeane lines were most definitely the best. I'm not sure if I am in agreement that W. Jeane was the original importer of the birds, but I'm not questioning you - I just don't personally know that to be factual, and I never just believe something as written - I prefer to do my own research. But, I'm off to find my research documents on that, because you've piqued my interest, and I have pages and pages of info. on this stuff - it's super interesting to me!

Thanks Wynette - I too believe the original stock to be the best. I did not say I was the only person who had original stock - of course there were others - many others. My point is I can't speak for whether the others kept the line pure or not, I can only speak for Jesse and myself.

I have researched how this particular line got into the country and I've talked to all parties involved and posted that information once before but it too started an uproar. I'm not sure why everyone gets so heated up about this. What I know is fact and I know what I know and all the men involved know that I know. But, if you're really interested, PM me and I'll give you names and phone numbers and all the intriquing details and you can call and ask them yourself.

A picture (or 5) is worth a thousand words. Pure Wade Jeane - French Black Copper Marans. Big, beefy beautiful birds- at only six months old. Broodiest bunch of birds I've ever seen. I sell chicks and eggs. PM me for any other information.

Thanks Ruth - I have plenty of my own sources I can check with, and I'm going to most definitely be going back over my paperwork this weekend - maybe I've missed some important info. It's great that you're confident about your lines and have kept them pure - that makes it so much easier when making breeding decisions! I have several pures in my breed pen, but I DO breed my pures with each other. I have found that hatchability has vastly improved when I do this, but I DO agree that it's important to know which are which line, as well. Thank goodness for a good tagging system in my breed pen, and lots of notes taken over the years or I'd be lost!

Oh, I posted before seeing your last pics - I like the size of your stock! I see you have too many points on your roo's comb, per the proposed SOP - I'm working on that, too. Combs can be a tough one to get right. I have a young one coming up that has a PERFECT comb - I just hope he's nice & large like yours are when he's done growing! Here's my boy (at 32 weeks) - I have super high hopes for him, and folks have been getting fantastic hatch results:

ETA: that's not a FBCM behind my cockerel, FYI.

Beautiful birds Ruth!! I am really going to be depressed now if these eggs don't hatch! These were supposed to be from Jesse Bryant's birds! Of course like you said, they may or may not have been crossed with other lines somewhere in between Jesse to this breeder. Pink, I just may have a steth laying around here somewhere, so if I find it, I will try that!! But then, do I really want to know??

Hi Wynette - that's just one roo out of many. I posted a picture of another roo and even Amazondoc said he had a perfect comb - the much desired 5 point comb - but that one had too much red on his chest. But, as I understand it, and I'm sure I'll be corrected if I don't get this exactly right - there's only 5 (judging) points awarded to a their comb in an APA show and these birds aren't APA approved anyway (yet) so..........

Thanks Wynette. In my mind, I know that, but it just seems so quiet in there. Hopefully, they are just late bloomers.

Darn it Pink, now I can't get that song out of my head! I can see Stephen Tyler now, surrounded by pink chicks!!
