I have my bator fired up with my newest find from my wish list, true Araucana, rumpless and double tufted, but I had to fill the blanks with a couple of Cuckoo Marans! The Araucana are actually a beautiful blue, but my camera makes things lighter and shades off of the right color

Right now I have 5 Cuckoo Marans eggs plus probably one more tomorrow, ready to ship on Wednesday that are in need of a home - I will send them to the first taker for the cost of shipping only (usually about $7.85)! THESE MAY BE TAKEN, NOW WHAT ABOUT FOR NEXT WEEK??

Here is a pic of my eggs! We're due on 10/12/08.....I'll be out of town 10/10 and 10/11 so I will keep my hands out of bator! I will, I will, I will! Cause I wont be home

You know, the little black one looks like one of my pullets did. She didn't have the white bib like the others. She actually ended up having the most color of my girls and also looks slightly different from them. It made me wonder if the little black ones always are that way.

Both of them are beautiful!

I am way behind on reading the posts. I am sorry. Wow. Good news and then bad news

Well, you know on positive side of things, it seems like this is much better happening now going in to winter than in the spring. It sounds like they will be ok and will get through it. I'm sorry, that just sucks. I had never heard of fowl pox.

Wow. A lot has been happening. Beautiful new chicks, sick birds, nice new eggs........

Tina, I meant to tell you before, your Cuckoos have been laying really nice eggs for the last month or so haven't they? They look dark, red and big.

and-it's so late in the year. That's really nice.

You know, a few posts back you were wondering when everyone's BCs will start laying. Mine hatched in July so I was thinking maybe they might start around the holidays but Donna told me they probably won't start until Jan or so. Seems like a long time to wait, but in the mean time I have 3 pullets; my buttercup, who is just such a cool bird and my EE and Barred Rock should really start very soon because they hatched in May. Those will be my very first eggs.

Okay, but mine still seem very Juvenile....they hatched June 19th....they dont seem as large as yours, or to be maturing as quickly? They still think they're babies! I guess they are, but that means they could start laying in December? That just seems wrong, they are so young?
Post pics when we get eggs! I'm sending off some nice ones and some funky looking ones tomorrow!

Tina,

I'd be interested in some of your cuckoo eggs. If you like, sometime in the future, I can swap some true araucana eggs. I have a nice assortment of birds started and in the spring all of my pullets will be laying. I have some awesome tufted tailes birds.

Here's a photo of my young girls, not quite laying yet but getting close:

I have 8 girls and these are my first marans. I am looking forward to seeing some dark shells!

We got our Cuckoo Marans July 7th I was also hoping they would be laying during the holidays, Chocolate colored eggs in a basket seemed like such a cool gift. But I guess I'll have to wait and see.

Here are some photos I took about 2 weeks ago in between the rains we were having.

They are now with the rest of our chickens. They seem to stay inside the coop more than the older ones of course when you have RIR Penny chasing ya back in.

But there is that brave 1or 2 once in a while. We have 11 pullets and 5 cockrels of the Marans.

OK, you guys are killing me. I'm home with sick hubby today, and an aching back that's preventing much housework...I'm going outside with the camera RIGHT NOW to get some free-ranging shots of the copper black babies.
